The last couple of weeks have been very busy! The class is getting very excited for winter break in only one more week!
Math- We are working on multiplication strategies. We learned how to use the box method, expanded form, partial products, and the standard algorithm to multiply large numbers by 1-digit numbers, and students took a Check-in to see how they are doing. Those were sent home today to be signed over the weekend. We are using those same strategies to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. There will be a Multiplication Test after winter break (around January 8th).
Reading- Earlier this week, students finished their research about a cause of the American Revolution and taught the class what they learned. Now, we are preparing for a debate about whether the colonists should declare their independence from Great Britain by reading nonfiction books and spinning the evidence. The class is looking forward to our debate on Tuesday!
Writing- We are drafting our Personal Essays and will revise and edit them next week. Ask your child to see their essay draft on Google Classroom.
Science- The class did very well on the Structure and Function test! The tests were sent home to be signed and returned earlier this week. Now, students are working on a biomimicry STEM project. They are creating inventions that will solve human problems with an idea from nature. The ideas they have so far are so cool!
