*If you have not yet signed up to volunteer to send in any items to the class Halloween Party on Tuesday, please do so here: http://signup.com/go/HuUpCfn
*Parent-Teacher Conference Forms were sent home on Tuesday, October 24th. If you have not already done so, please return the bottom portion to confirm your attendance by Tuesday, 10/31. If you need to reschedule, I will reach out to you next week!
Math- This week, we reviewed and extended our understanding of adding and subtracting larger numbers. Students showed that they were able to add and subtract using the U.S. Algorithm (even across zeros!), so they have clearly retained that knowledge from third grade and we extended this skill to numbers through the millions place. Next week, on Friday, November 3rd, students will take the Place Value Unit Test. To prepare, I sent home a review packet today. The review packets are to be completed and returned by Thursday, so that we can go over it in school.
Reading- Today, we finished reading Shiloh! Next week, we will wrap up our unit on "Reading is Thinking" by having some closing discussions about the novel. We will also learn about the RACE strategy for writing about our reading.
Writing- This week, we edited and started to publish our Personal Narratives. Students are expected to finish publishing, using the green checklist, at home (they can get the checklist in the Writing Center of the classroom). Final drafts are to be turned in on Google Classroom by Tuesday, 10/31, so we can celebrate our writing on Wednesday!
Science- This week, we we learned about animal adaptations and how humans impact ecosystems. Study guides for the upcoming test were sent home on Thursday. They are to be completed and returned by Monday, 10/30. The Ecosystems Unit Test will be on Tuesday, 10/31.
Research- As an extension from the science unit, we started our first research project about Ecosystems. Students came up with their own questions about something they still wanted to know about Ecosystems and are working in small groups to research their question. Students will create small projects next week about their findings and present their findings to the class on Friday!
Homework- Next week (10/30-11/3), the class will receive a homework checklist that has every study guide and test listed on it. Students will also be expected to read and complete Word Study work. Everything will be listed on the checklist. Please sign this checklist before your child hands it in on Friday!
