Today, we had a Pumpkin Day with our Kindergarten Buddy Class! We helped our buddies pick pumpkins from the BC pumpkin patch and did other pumpkin-related activities with them. To see some photos from today, click here!
*If you have not yet signed up to volunteer to send in any items to the class Halloween Party on Wednesday, please do so here!
*Parent-Teacher Conferences- Information about this has been sent out via School Messenger. Please sign up on Genesis for a time on November 5th when you can bring your child with you. The students will be active participants in our conferences!
Math- This week, we reviewed and extended our understanding of adding and subtracting larger numbers. Students showed that they were able to add and subtract using the U.S. Algorithm (even across zeros!), so they have clearly retained that knowledge from third grade and we extended this skill to numbers through the millions place. Next week, on Friday, November 2nd, students will take the Place Value Unit Test. To prepare, I sent home a review packet yesterday. The review packets are to be completed and returned by Thursday, so that we can go over it in school.
Reading- This week, we started practicing what fourth grade RACE responses look like. RACE is the strategy that students are expected to use when they answer a question about something they have read.
Writing- This week, we revised our Personal Narratives. All week, students had the opportunity to use various revision strategies. They really stepped up to the challenge with all of the strategies taught! Next week, students will finish revising, then move into editing and publishing their drafts.
Social Studies- This week, we wrapped up our mini-unit on Colonial America. This is a "mini-unit," as it develops essential knowledge that students need in order to understand our American Revolution unit. Students worked very hard on the final assessment today and they will be returned next week!
