This week was National No Name Calling Week! We discussed why we should respect each other and why people might not always respect each other. The school also had a kindness challenge!
What We're Learning:
Math: We are currently working on our Division unit. We have learned about divisibility, creating multi-step equations, and how to divide by multiples of 10. Today, students practiced these skills on a Check-In on the computer. I am going to incorporate more computer-based check-ins, so that the students are more prepared for the upcoming computer-based math tests. Score reports and "scrap paper" from this check-in will be sent home next week for you to review with your child!
Reading: We are reading The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. The focus of this novel and unit is to better understand characters. Ask your child about the secondary characters in this novel!
Writing: This week, we gathered more entries in our notebooks about various short stories. Next week, we are going to find ideas that we can use for our literary essays. Ask your child which story from the writing packet they liked best!
Social Studies: This week, in the American Revolution, we learned about the events that led to the Revolutionary War: the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. These events illustrated that the tensions were running high in the colonies and it might be time for the colonists to revolt. Next week, on Thursday, there will be a quiz on the causes of the American Revolution. Please encourage your child to take their notes home to study later in the week.
