Math: This week, we finished learning about all of the fraction concepts (equivalence, comparing, ordering, adding, subtracting, and multiplying by whole numbers). There are a list of concepts in your child's math notebooks. This list is there so that they can monitor their learning! Next week, we will learn the decimal concepts that you can see on that list (reading, writing, saying, representing, comparing, ordering, and converting). Then, on Tuesday, April 9th, the class with take the Fractions & Decimals Unit Test. A review packet is being sent home on Monday!
Language Arts: For reading, we are learning about and reading myths. This week, we discussed different versions of myths. In writing, everyone revised their second literary essays for their introductions, conclusions, and better evidence. We will edit and share them next week! Finally, to prepare for the upcoming NJSLA test, we practiced another literary analysis and research simulation task. The NJSLA test is coming up in a couple of weeks (4/12 & 4/15).
Science: We are working on Earth Systems, Fossil Fuels, and Human Impact. Next week, the class will take a quiz on what we have learned so far (energy sources, soil, landforms, weathering, erosion, deposition, and plate movements). The quiz will be on Wednesday, April 3rd and (looking ahead) the unit test will be on Wednesday, April 17th. There are extra resources (additional to their notebooks and folders) to support your child's studies on the Google Classroom!
Genius Hour: For their next Genius Hour projects, I challenged the class to choose a project that they could make a working model for. For example, some students chose to research about roller coasters and they are going to try to make a working roller coaster model! The class started researching their topics today.
