This week was very productive! Students showed perseverance as they learned new math and reading strategies!
Math- This week, students learned the Partial Quotients method for division. This strategy is very helpful for students who are struggling with their multiplication facts. Next week, we will move onto learning the long division algorithm, so it is important that students practice their multiplication facts!
Reading- We are currently reading The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. With this novel, we focus on understanding characters in a story. At home, please support your child by asking them questions about the characters in their books.
Writing- We are currently in our Literary Essay unit. A literary essay is an essay about something that you have read. Students are learning how to come up with ideas about a text right now. This week, we learned how to have ideas about the characters, setting, and symbols in a story.
Social Studies- This week, students learned about the Declaration of Independence. Looking forward, next week, students will learn about some more of the battles of the Revolutionary War and prepare for a unit test. The American Revolution test will be on Friday, February 3rd. Please help your child study at home with the study guide (to be sent home on Monday).
