The holiday season is definitely upon us in D404! The students were very excited all week long for the upcoming break. They tried to show self-control and we had A LOT of discussions about strategies we can use to not be distracting, as well as to not get distracted. While it can be difficult with holiday and family events, please ensure that your child is getting a full night's sleep each night. This will help them stay focused and manage their emotions throughout the day!
Math- This week, we wrapped up our Multiplication unit by practicing a lot of different kinds of story problems. To help them review for the upcoming test, come up with story problems for them to do at home. For example: Sally had 75 cents. Brad had 5 times as many cents as Sally. How many cents does Brad have? or How many cents do they have altogether? or Sally had 75 cents. That was 5 times as many as Brad. How many cents does Brad have? Students will take their Multiplication Post Test on Tuesday, 12/20!
Reading- We are currently working in our Nonfiction Unit. This week, we learned how to identify and determine the main idea of a text! At the end of the week, students completed a check-in of all of the Nonfiction skills that we have learned so far. The class is doing a very good job tackling (marking up and summarizing) the text!
Writing- This week, we drafted and revised our Personal Essays! Students typed their essays, which is making this unit go very smoothly. Ask your child about how their essay is coming along!
Social Studies- This week, we started the next Social Studies unit on the American Revolution. Students started to ask questions about the Revolution on our class padlet, which is a website in which the students can post their questions. Have your child show you the class's padlet (access through Google Classroom)!
