*There is no school on Monday, 10/5 and Tuesday, 10/6 in observance of Rosh Hashanah.
*Wednesday, October 5th is Picture Day! Orders are due tomorrow, Friday 9/30!
Math- We are currently working on our Place Value unit. This week, we renamed numbers and discussed the relationship between place value positions. We rename numbers when we recognize that 546 is 546 ones, or 5 hundreds & 46 ones, or 54 tens & 6 ones, etc.
Reading- We are currently reading Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. To accompany this novel, we are learning how to write 4th grade RACE responses. RACE is a strategy that we use to respond to reading. It stands for Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite evidence, and Explain the evidence. Students had word study this week and will have a test on their words tomorrow!
Writing- This week, we spent a lot of time trying out different Personal Narrative ideas. Ask your student this weekend which idea they chose to continue with to plan, draft, and publish!
Science- We are currently learning about ecosystems! This week, we learned that the sun is the greatest source of energy on Earth and all living things get energy from the sun either directly (producers) or indirectly (consumers). Next week, we will discuss waste, rot, and decay! To support this at home, you might want to let some old food stay in the refrigerator or on the counter. Then, engage your student in a conversation about what is happening to the food.
Homework- Next week (10/5-10/7), there will be no Homework Choice Board. Instead, students should read independently for at least 20 minutes each night.
PTO Update- We are collecting Box Tops until October 14th. Please send in current box tops with your child! This is a competition, so the class that collects the most will be rewarded!
